Libby awarded Town Medal for Meteor Club activities

Libby with Henley-on-Thames Mayor Rory Hunt

Libby Meachin was presented with the prestigious Town Medal by Henley-on-Thames Mayor Rory Hunt in a ceremony at the Town Hall on Wednesday 9 April. The medal was awarded in recognition of her long-standing involvement with the Meteor Club and her dedication to all its members.

Often referred to as ‘the best club in Henley’ by its members and supporters, the Meteor Club is run as part of South Oxfordshire Mencap Society and provides weekly evening activities and extra social events for adults with learning disabilities in and around Henley. The essence of the club is to provide enjoyment, have fun and integrate members with learning disabilities into the community.

Known for her warmth and enthusiasm for the Club and its members, and unrelentless hard work, Libby has been at the heart of Meteor Club for many years, organizing activities and recruiting members and volunteers. Libby was instrumental in keeping activities going during lockdown, making sure members kept in touch and were not isolated. Weekly Zoom chats evolved into more ambitious online activities, including discos and bingo.

The Town Medal is awarded to citizens who have provided exceptional service to the town and community.

Warm congratulations to Libby from all of us!
