Who We Are

South Oxfordshire Mencap Society is a local charity serving the communities of Henley-on-Thames and the surrounding areas. Our purpose is to provide people with learning disabilities opportunities to enjoy their lives more fully. We do this by offering regular respite activities allowing people with learning disabilities to engage with and integrate into the general community.

Currently we support an active group of around 50 people with special needs.

One of our main activities is The Meteor Club which meets every week for social activities.

We also hold 4 discos a year, swimming sessions, a summer picnic or barbeque and a Xmas Party, and organise trips to the pantomime and the theatre.

We are a registered charity (no. 1079550) affiliated to Royal Mencap Society.

Fundraising & Donations

We are magnificently assisted by a group of approximately 30 volunteers who give freely of their time to organise and assist with running the many events and activities we undertake, but we rely on voluntary donations to help fund these activities – including swimming, discos, Meteor Club activities, outings and the Xmas party, and also our current activities on Zoom which many of our members enjoy – discos, singing, drumming.

Each year we undertake a number of fundraising activities to help finance these activities and we have also been fortunate to receive support from Henley Town and South Oxfordshire District Councils in the form of grants. Further support is provided through donations received from generous donors, which we are always delighted to receive.

If you feel able to support our cause, a donation could help support the expenses associated with our activities. Please click here to make a donation.

We are affiliated to Royal Mencap Society (Registered Charity Number 222377) but receive no funding support from them.
